How it works

McKesson PCS

Every time a mail order prescription gets shipped, PCS sends a Shipped notification to mscripts. This Shipped message replaces the Rx Ready notification that gets triggered from all non-mail fills.

mscripts uses this Shipped notification to:

  1. Create a new Tracking with it's shipment tracking partner.
  2. Send an initial Shipped message out to patient informing them about the event.

For the system to work properly, the Shipped notification that mscripts receives from PCS must contain the following attributes:

  1. Tracking URL: The URL provided by the courier that can be used to track the shipment on their website. Since PCS does not provide the courier name explicitly, mscripts use the tracking URL to identify who the courier is.
  2. Tracking ID:  The Tracking ID of the shipment.

There is another tracking related attribute called 'Estimated delivery date' but that's not as dependable and is therefore not used by mscripts. The estimated delivery date used by mscripts is the one provided by the courier directly.

System requirements

  • McKesson-based pharmacies with Patient Notifications for PCS enabled have access to additional add-on modules, including the mscripts Shipment Tracking Module.
  • For mscripts to receive tracking information from McKesson, its requried that McKesson HVS (High Volume Solutions) is used in the backend for mail orders.
  • The courier(s) involved must be supported by mscripts' shipment tracking vendor.
